  2.     [If] full attention was given to 
  3.     outer objects, these frequently 
  4.     seemed to be in normal 
  5.     position, and whatever there 
  6.     was of abnormality seemed to 
  7.     lie in myself, as if head and 
  8.     shoulders were inverted and I 
  9.     were viewing objects from that 
  10.     position, as boys sometimes do 
  11.     from between their legs. At 
  12.     other times the inversion 
  13.     seemed confined to the face or 
  14.     eyes alone.

  16.     Still another reason for the 
  17. confusion over StrattonΓÇÖs 
  18. findings is that his motor 
  19. performance clearly did 
  20. undergo successful adaptation. 
  21. At first, as we might expect, his 
  22. movements toward visible 
  23. objects were inappropriate. He 
  24. reached for an object on the 
  25. left when it was in fact on the 
  26. right. But he soon learned to 
  27. correct for these errors and, in 
  28. time, such correction became 
  29. automatic, although 
  30. occasionally errors recurred. 
  31. Others who have repeated this 
  32. kind of experiment over longer 
  33. time periods have learned to 
  34. negotiate the environment so 
  35. successfully that they have 
  36. even been able to ride a bicycle 
  37. or ski.
